Power Generation Begins at 20 MW Langtang Khola Hydropower Project in Rasuwa

Rasuwa, Nepal - Power generation has officially commenced at the 20 MW Langtang Khola Hydropower Project located in Syafrubesi of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-5. The project has entered its trial production phase after successfully completing key structural and technical tests.
According to the developer, Multi Energy Development Pvt. Ltd., the plant has already been connected to Nepal’s national grid, allowing electricity generated during this phase to be supplied as part of trial operations. The company stated that the project will provide free electricity to the grid for approximately 15 days as part of the testing and stabilization process before transitioning into full commercial operation.
The initiation of power generation marks a significant milestone for the project, which is expected to contribute to strengthening local energy supply and supporting Nepal’s broader goal of increasing domestic hydropower production. Once fully operational, the Langtang Khola Hydropower Project will add 20 MW of clean energy to the national system, helping reduce dependency on energy imports and enhancing grid reliability.
Hydropower continues to play a central role in Nepal’s renewable energy strategy, particularly in harnessing river-based resources in mountainous regions like Rasuwa. Projects such as Langtang Khola reflect ongoing efforts by private sector developers to expand sustainable energy infrastructure across the country.
