Kathmandu, April 8, 2026 - A new pictorial guidebook and trekking map titled Three Faces of Everest has been officially launched in Kathmandu, aiming to enhance route planning and knowledge for mountaineers and trekking professionals.
The book and its corresponding map were jointly unveiled at the Secretariat of the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) in Maligaon. The publication is a collaborative effort between Map House and Concept Nepal.
Authored by Dutch climbing expert Bart Jordans, the guidebook presents a comprehensive visual and informational overview of all three major faces of Mount Everest - the South (Nepal), North (Tibet/China), and East (Kangshung) faces - within a single volume. The accompanying map further details trekking routes and expedition pathways across these regions.
The launch event was attended by key figures in Nepal’s tourism sector, including TAAN President Sagar Pandey, publisher Pawan Shakya, and TAAN General Secretary Sonam G. Sherpa. They were joined by tourism stakeholders such as Rajendra Amgain, Sanjib Gurung, and Ram K. Tiwari, along with media representatives from Nepal and China.
Speaking at the event, TAAN representatives expressed appreciation to the author and publisher, highlighting that the publication will serve as a valuable technical and visual resource for trekking and expedition agencies. The book is expected to support better route planning to Everest’s base camps and surrounding peaks from multiple approaches.
The release of Three Faces of Everest comes at a time when Nepal is emphasizing sustainable and well-informed mountain tourism, with increasing attention to safety, route diversity, and environmental awareness in the Himalayas.
