Dhading, Nepal - Dense forest areas in Bhalukhola and Kalimati, located in Ward No. 1 of Galchhi Rural Municipality, have been experiencing recurring seasonal fires, raising serious environmental and ecological concerns among local observers.
According to local accounts, the fires are occurring almost every year, particularly affecting forest zones near Dalang and Parilachhap villages. The fires appear to originate from human activities, with some residents reportedly setting controlled burns in the belief that it encourages the growth of fresh grass for livestock and reduces the presence of wild animals.
However, such practices are increasingly being viewed as harmful and unsustainable. Environmental experts warn that repeated burning of forest areas can lead to long-term degradation of biodiversity, destruction of wildlife habitats, and increased risks of soil erosion and landslides in hilly terrains like Galchhi.
