Second Batch of WASH Volunteers Begins Emergency Preparedness Training in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, September 9, 2026 - The Environment & Public Health Organization (ENPHO), in collaboration with Paschim Paaila and Nepal Rising Daayitwa US, has begun the second batch of a two-day WASH Volunteer Training & Preparedness Workshop in Kathmandu.
The training, which started on September 8, 2026, at the ENPHO Hall, is focused on strengthening the knowledge, practical skills and preparedness of volunteers to support Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions during flood emergencies.
The initiative comes at a time when Nepal continues to face significant disaster risks from floods, landslides and other climate-related hazards, highlighting the importance of trained community-level responders who can help address urgent water, sanitation and hygiene needs during emergencies.
Throughout the two-day workshop, participants are taking part in practical learning sessions and preparedness activities designed to improve their understanding of emergency WASH response and strengthen their ability to support communities affected by floods.
According to the organizers, strengthening volunteer capacity is an important part of building a more effective and coordinated emergency response system. Trained WASH volunteers can play a valuable role in supporting affected communities, particularly where access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene services is disrupted following disasters.
The second batch of training is intended to further expand the pool of prepared WASH volunteers and contribute to stronger emergency preparedness and response at the community level.
The workshop reflects the growing importance of locally trained human resources in disaster preparedness, particularly as Nepal faces increasing exposure to floods and other hazards that can disrupt essential services and put vulnerable communities at risk.
Ecosphere News will continue to follow initiatives aimed at strengthening Nepal's disaster preparedness, climate resilience and community-based emergency response capacity.
