  • Helicopter Tourism Meets Himalayan Adventure: Naya Kanga Draws Growing Attention
Helicopter Tourism Meets Himalayan Adventure: Naya Kanga Draws Growing Attention

Kathmandu, Nepal - A striking scene of a Prabhu helicopter landing on a snow-covered ridge beneath the towering Naya Kanga Peak highlights the increasing intersection of aviation access and mountain tourism in Nepal’s high Himalayas.
Located inside Langtang National Park, Naya Kanga Peak rises to an elevation of approximately 5,844 meters and lies near the well-known Kyangjin Gompa. The peak has gained recognition among aspiring climbers as an ideal introductory mountain due to its relatively accessible climbing routes compared to more technical Himalayan summits.
The image reflects a growing trend in Nepal’s tourism sector, where helicopter services are increasingly used not only for rescue operations but also for scenic flights, logistics, and facilitating access to remote alpine destinations. Such services have made high-altitude regions like Langtang more reachable, particularly for international visitors with limited time.
However, experts emphasize that while helicopter-supported tourism boosts local economies and enhances accessibility, it must be carefully managed within protected areas. Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and conservation stakeholders continue to stress the importance of balancing tourism growth with ecological preservation, especially in sensitive mountain ecosystems vulnerable to noise pollution, carbon emissions, and habitat disturbance.
Naya Kanga’s increasing popularity also reflects Nepal’s broader push to promote lesser-crowded trekking and climbing destinations beyond the Everest and Annapurna regions. Local communities in the Langtang Valley, still recovering from past natural disasters, are gradually benefiting from renewed tourism activities.
As Nepal advances its sustainable tourism agenda, the image serves as both an inspiration for adventure seekers and a reminder of the responsibility to protect fragile Himalayan landscapes.
