RECAP4NDC Workshop Strengthens Indo-German Cooperation on Forest Landscape Restoration

New Delhi, India - A three-day strategic planning workshop under the RECAP4NDC programme concluded on 18 March 2026 at TERI Gram, bringing together key national and international partners to accelerate Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) efforts across India.
Jointly hosted by The Energy and Resources Institute and GIZ India, the 4th RECAP4NDC Planning Workshop marked a critical milestone in advancing climate and forest restoration goals under the Indo-German collaboration. The six-year RECAP4NDC initiative is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit on behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection under the International Climate Initiative.
The programme is being carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and various State Forest Departments. It focuses on five strategic pillars: on-ground FLR implementation, integrated monitoring systems, innovative financing mechanisms, policy integration, and knowledge sharing.
The workshop convened a broad consortium of technical and policy partners, including International Union for Conservation of Nature, Forest Survey of India, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, alongside representatives from state forest departments of Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Over the course of the workshop, participants reviewed progress made under the RECAP4NDC framework and outlined action plans for 2026. Discussions on the first day centered around defining outcome indicators, integrating Detailed Project Reports into official forest management plans, and exploring opportunities for carbon project development and capacity building. The second day focused on enhancing coordination among partners and prioritising key activities for the coming year. On the final day, strategies were aligned with state-specific priorities through direct consultations with forest officials.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to scale up restoration efforts. By aligning policy frameworks with local-level implementation and leveraging innovative financing approaches, the RECAP4NDC consortium aims to contribute significantly to India’s national forest and climate targets in the coming years.
