Wildfire Erupts Near Shantidham Temple in Kavresthali, Kathmandu
By Ecosphere News Desk

Kathmandu, Nepal - A wildfire broke out around the forested hills near Shantidham Temple in the Kavresthali area of Kathmandu on Thursday evening, raising concerns among local residents and authorities.
The fire, visible from surrounding settlements, was seen spreading across the hillside forest, with flames intensifying due to dry vegetation and possible wind influence. The affected area lies near the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, where community forests and scattered settlements are located close to religious and cultural sites.
Local residents reported seeing flames climbing uphill, while plumes of smoke filled the night sky. Although the full extent of damage is yet to be officially confirmed, the incident has heightened fears of forest loss, risks to biodiversity, and potential threats to nearby infrastructure, including communication towers seen in the affected zone.
Security personnel and local responders are expected to assess the situation and initiate containment efforts. At the time of reporting, there have been no confirmed reports of human casualties. Authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the fire, which during Nepal’s dry season is often linked to prolonged drought conditions, unmanaged forest litter, or accidental human activity.
Wildfires have become increasingly frequent in Nepal during the pre-monsoon months, posing serious environmental and public health challenges. Experts warn that rising temperatures, low humidity, and climate variability are intensifying the scale and frequency of such incidents across the country.
Ecosphere News will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
