Snow Blocks Access to Remote Mustang Village, No Voters Present Ahead of Polls

Mustang - Heavy snow on a mountain road in Mustang District has prevented voters from returning to a remote Himalayan settlement, leaving a polling location without residents just as election activities intensify across Nepal.
The problem has been reported in Sangta village of Ward No. 5 in Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality. Snow accumulated along the road connecting the village has made travel difficult, keeping residents away from their homes.
As the country prepares for elections and political activities increase nationwide, Sangta remains unusually empty. Despite the arrival of the second week of the Nepali month of Falgun, not a single registered voter has been able to return to the village.
According to District Election Officer Lokendra Gyawali, there are 39 registered voters assigned to the polling centre located at Himali Basic School. The small Himalayan settlement consists of only 13 households.
Local conditions in high-altitude districts like Mustang often pose logistical challenges during winter and early spring. Snowfall can block roads and isolate settlements for extended periods, complicating travel, public services, and election-related preparations.
Authorities and local officials are monitoring the situation as the election period approaches, while accessibility to remote villages remains a key concern in Nepal’s mountainous regions.
