KATHMANDU, Dec 19 - The REEEP GREEN Project successfully organized a high-level event titled “Advancing Nepal’s Clean Energy Future: Sustainable Energy Challenge Fund (SECF) Achievements & Opportunities” in Kathmandu on Thursday, bringing together key public and private stakeholders to reflect on progress and future directions in Nepal’s clean energy sector.
The event convened senior representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI), the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC), GIZ, the German Embassy, the European Union, BEK, along with development partners and private-sector actors. Discussions focused on the impact of the Sustainable Energy Challenge Fund and its contribution to accelerating Nepal’s transition towards sustainable, market-driven energy solutions.
Participants engaged in a high-level policy dialogue on advancing clean energy in Nepal, alongside technical discussions on energy efficiency in buildings and industrial sectors. The programme also featured experience sharing from private-sector projects supported by SECF, highlighting how targeted financial and technical support has helped unlock innovation and private investment in renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies.
An energy-efficient buildings marketplace, showcasing innovative and practical solutions, formed a key part of the event, providing stakeholders with insights into emerging technologies and business models that can support energy efficiency across Nepal’s growing urban and industrial landscape.
Concluding the programme, representatives from MoEWRI, GIZ, and AEPC reaffirmed SECF’s catalytic role in mobilizing private investment, strengthening market-based clean energy solutions, and supporting Nepal’s long-term climate goals and clean energy ambitions. They emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and the private sector to sustain momentum in the clean energy transition.
The REEEP GREEN Project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project aims to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in Nepal and is implemented as part of the Team Europe Initiative, reinforcing coordinated European support for Nepal’s sustainable energy development.
