In a historic achievement for Nepal’s sustainable tourism and hospitality sector, Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm has officially become an accommodation provider in Nepal to receive the prestigious Travelife Certification for Accommodation Sustainability, awarded by Travelife UK.
The certification was formally announced at a press conference held at the Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu, in the presence of officials, tourism stakeholders, and sustainability experts. This recognition places Nepal on the global map for responsible and environmentally conscious hospitality practices.
What the Certification Means
Travelife is an internationally respected sustainability certification scheme, based in the UK, that helps hotels and accommodation providers manage their social and environmental impacts effectively. The certification process involves an independent audit and detailed assessment of an establishment’s performance in areas such as:
Environmental management (energy, water, waste)
Biodiversity protection
Support for local communities and culture
Fair employment practices
Guest awareness and education on sustainability
By meeting the Travelife criteria, Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm has demonstrated exceptional commitment to environmental conservation, community development, and ethical hospitality.
Leading by Example in Nepal
Over the past two years, the resort has integrated sustainable principles into every aspect of its operations from organic farming, eco-friendly construction, and renewable energy use to local sourcing and employment. The certification serves not only as international recognition but also as an inspiration for other tourism businesses in Nepal.
“This achievement is not just a recognition for us, but a motivation for the entire tourism industry in Nepal to move toward sustainability, accountability, and community-centered growth,” said Mr. Arun Shrestha Owner of Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm.
Government and Community Support
The initiative received strong backing from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, as well as cooperation from Nepal Tourism Board, sustainability advisors, and local government bodies. Community engagement played a vital role, with local farmers, artisans, and youth participating in the resort’s sustainability programs.
Paving the Way Forward
With Nepal prioritizing eco-tourism and green development, this certification opens doors to:
Greater international visibility and eco-conscious travelers
Enhanced credibility in global tourism networks
Replication of the sustainable model in other parts of Nepal
Promotion of sustainable livelihood, agro-tourism, and nature-based experiences

As the Nepali property to receive this international certification, Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm now stands as a national model-bridging traditional values with modern sustainability goals.
