Kathmandu, Nepal - In a bold move to address the global challenge of climate misinformation, UNESCO has announced the launch of a Global Fund for the Integrity of Information on Climate Change. This initiative, unveiled on World Environment Day, seeks to combat the growing impact of information disorders on climate change, while supporting organizations dedicated to promoting accurate, evidence-based communication strategies.
The fund invites not-for-profit organizations from around the world, especially those from low and lower-middle-income economies, to submit project proposals that aim to:
Counter misinformation and disinformation regarding climate change
Develop effective communication strategies based on scientific evidence
Empower investigative journalism to tackle climate-related misinformation
This initiative is a vital step in UNESCO’s ongoing efforts to ensure that public understanding of climate change is rooted in truth and evidence, a crucial factor in driving global action to mitigate the environmental crisis.
The funding range for selected projects is between $30,000 and $150,000 per proposal, providing an opportunity for organizations active for more than two years to receive substantial support. The call for partnerships closes on July 7, 2025.
"Accurate information is the foundation of any global effort to address climate change. We must ensure that communities worldwide are equipped with the truth, backed by scientific research, to make informed decisions," said [UNESCO Representative/Spokesperson Name].
