Kathmandu, April 28, 2025 - In a significant move towards enhancing disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, the task force formed to draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) concluded its meeting with a renewed commitment to creating practical and concise guidelines. This initiative aims to foster seamless coordination among the National Emergency Operations Center, Provincial Emergency Operations Centers, District Emergency Operations Centers, and Local Emergency Operations Centers.
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Engineer Dinesh Bhatt, Executive Chief of the Authority, emphasized the importance of actionable and efficient SOPs. A key decision was made to conduct further studies and present a refined draft in the next meeting to ensure the SOPs are both implementable and effective.
Recognizing the complexity of managing multi-tiered emergency operations, the Authority has constituted a task force led by Joint Secretary Roshni Kumari Shrestha. The task force includes representatives from various ministries and agencies, reflecting a collaborative approach to tackling challenges in disaster management. Their primary focus will be on analyzing coordination mechanisms and improving the management of EOCs at all levels.
This initiative marks a critical step in enhancing Nepal’s emergency response framework. As disasters increasingly impact communities, the need for streamlined coordination and efficient management has never been more urgent. The proposed SOPs are expected to provide clear directives to ensure swift and unified action during emergencies.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees the operations of EOCs, is poised to play a pivotal role in the implementation of the SOPs once finalized. This development underscores the government's commitment to strengthening disaster resilience and safeguarding lives and property across the nation.
Ecosphere News will continue to provide updates as this critical framework takes shape, reflecting the growing importance of disaster preparedness in Nepal’s national agenda.
