Kathmandu, Nepal - Travellers heading home to celebrate Dashain can take some encouragement from the latest highway update, which reports that several major road sections connecting Kathmandu with different parts of Nepal were open as of 7:20 AM.
According to the update, key routes linking the Kathmandu Valley with the central, western, eastern and far-western regions were reported open, potentially facilitating travel for people returning to their hometowns and villages for the festival.
The reported open routes include Kathmandu–Galchi–Mugling, Mugling–Narayangarh, Kathmandu–Kulekhani–Hetauda and Mugling–Pokhara–Kushma. Other major routes reported open include Narayangarh–Butwal, Butwal–Palpa, Butwal–Nepalgunj, Nepalgunj–Dhangadhi and Kohalpur–Surkhet.
In the eastern and southeastern parts of the country, the update also listed Hetauda–Pathlaiya–Janakpur, Pathlaiya–Simara–Birgunj, Bardibas–Koshi Barrage–Itahari, Itahari–Damak–Kakarbhitta and Biratnagar–Itahari–Dharan as open.
The update brings encouraging news for Dashain travellers, as road connectivity is particularly important during Nepal's biggest annual festival, when thousands of people travel from cities to their ancestral homes to celebrate with family and relatives.
However, road conditions can change because of rainfall, landslides, traffic congestion, accidents or other unforeseen circumstances. Travellers are therefore advised to verify the latest road conditions before departure, follow traffic police instructions, drive cautiously and allow sufficient time for their journeys.
For further information about road conditions and traffic management, the public can contact Traffic Police at 103 or Nepal Police at 100.
Note: This report reflects the highway status provided in the update as of 7:20 AM. It does not independently verify current road conditions.
