  • Strong Winds Topple Pine Trees Across Salyan Forests
Strong Winds Topple Pine Trees Across Salyan Forests

Salyan, Nepal - Large numbers of pine trees have been brought down in forest areas of Salyan district following persistent rainfall and strong winds, highlighting the vulnerability of mountain forests during periods of severe weather.
Recent reports from Kapurkot Rural Municipality-5, Rim, indicate that dozens of pine trees fell simultaneously in the forest. The Division Forest Office, Salyan, has attributed the tree falls to the combination of prolonged rainfall, which can weaken and loosen the soil around shallow-rooted pine trees, and strong winds.
The impacts have extended beyond the forest. Fallen trees have damaged electricity infrastructure in several parts of the district, including sections of the 33-kV transmission line, while roads have also faced increased risks from fallen trees, landslides and falling rocks.
Authorities have warned of continued risks as wet conditions persist. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported ongoing weather activity over Nepal, with rainfall possible in several hilly and mountainous areas.
The image from Salyan captures the scale of the forest disturbance, with numerous trees lying across the hillside. A full assessment of the affected forest area and the number of trees lost is still required.
Such events also underline the importance of forest-risk monitoring, slope stability, responsible infrastructure development and climate-resilient land management in Nepal's hills.
