Salyan, August 13 - In an effort to support the enhancement of the Kupinde Lake Management Plan under the Climate Resilient Landscapes and Livelihoods Project (CRLLP), a team from the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) carried out a field visit to Kupinde Lake in Salyan district.
During the visit, the NTNC team conducted an on-site reconnaissance survey and held in-person consultations with key stakeholders, including the Divisional Forest Office, Salyan, Bangad Kupinde Municipality, local community representatives, hoteliers, pilgrims, and other concerned groups associated with the lake and its surrounding landscape.
The discussions focused on identifying existing management challenges, opportunities for sustainable tourism development, conservation priorities, and mechanisms for improving local participation in the lake’s long-term protection and utilization.
According to NTNC, Kupinde Lake is a pristine natural asset with significant potential to be rebranded as a destination tourism site in Karnali Province. The organization expressed its commitment to supporting both the preparation of the management plan and its effective implementation on the ground.
As part of the mission, the NTNC team also visited the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Trade, Forest and Environment (MoITFE), Karnali Province, in Surkhet, Bangad Kupinde Municipality in Sallibajar, and the Divisional Forest Office, Salyan to strengthen coordination among provincial and local authorities.
Kupinde Lake, located in the hilly landscape of Salyan, is known for its scenic beauty, religious importance, and growing attraction among domestic visitors. Conservation experts believe that a well-designed management plan integrating climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, community livelihoods, and sustainable tourism could help transform the lake into an important eco-tourism destination while safeguarding its ecological integrity.
The CRLLP-supported initiative is expected to contribute to climate-resilient landscape management, promote nature-based tourism, and create livelihood opportunities for local communities through improved conservation and tourism governance.
