Kathmandu Metropolitan City Plants 200 Saplings Along Roadsides on World Environment Day

Kathmandu, June 5: Marking World Environment Day, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) launched a roadside plantation initiative by planting 200 saplings across various locations in the capital on Friday.
The plantation campaign reflects the city's growing commitment to urban greening and environmental conservation. By introducing more greenery along roadsides, KMC aims to improve the urban environment, enhance air quality, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Kathmandu's rapidly expanding urban landscape.
Municipal officials stated that roadside plantations not only beautify public spaces but also play a crucial role in mitigating pollution, reducing urban heat, and promoting ecological balance. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to create a cleaner, greener, and more climate-resilient city.
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, serves as a global platform to encourage environmental awareness and action. This year's plantation drive demonstrates Kathmandu Metropolitan City's commitment to translating environmental awareness into practical action at the local level.
Environmental advocates have welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that the long-term success of such programs depends on proper maintenance, protection, and community participation to ensure the healthy growth of the planted saplings.
As Kathmandu faces increasing environmental challenges associated with urbanization, initiatives such as roadside greening are expected to contribute positively to the city's ecological health and the well-being of its residents.
