Buddha Jayanti Observed with Renewed Call for Peace, Knowledge, and Non-Violence

Kathmandu -The auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti has been marked across Nepal and by Buddhist communities worldwide with a renewed reflection on the timeless teachings of Gautama Buddha-emphasizing peace, wisdom, and the path to the cessation of suffering.
Rooted in the foundational doctrine of Buddhism, Buddha’s teaching-“There is suffering, there is a cause of suffering, there is the cessation of suffering, and there is a path leading to the cessation of suffering”-continues to guide millions toward a life of balance and understanding. The philosophy underscores that suffering is not permanent and can be overcome through awareness, ethical living, and mental discipline.
The message shared on this occasion highlights a deeper metaphor: just as darkness is merely the absence of light, the presence of knowledge can naturally dispel ignorance and confusion. This perspective aligns with Buddha’s emphasis on inner awakening and the transformative power of wisdom.
Nepal, the birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini, takes pride in its enduring identity as a land of peace and non-violence. The day serves not only as a spiritual celebration but also as a reminder of the country’s historical and cultural responsibility to uphold these values in a rapidly changing world.
The reflection further stresses that true transformation or “revolution” does not arise from conflict or force, but from knowledge-symbolically expressed as beginning not with ‘ka’ but with ‘gya,’ representing wisdom. This message resonates strongly in contemporary times, where sustainable peace increasingly depends on education, awareness, and dialogue.
As devotees light butter lamps, offer prayers, and engage in acts of compassion, the essence of Buddha’s final guidance-“Be a light unto yourself”-echoes as a personal and collective call to action.
