  • Government Introduces Biweekly Salary Payment System for Civil Servants
Government Introduces Biweekly Salary Payment System for Civil Servants

Kathmandu, Nepal - The Government of Nepal has decided to implement a new salary payment system for its civil servants, shifting from the traditional monthly disbursement to a biweekly (every 15 days) payment structure.
The decision was made at the ministerial level on Baisakh 4 by the Ministry of Finance Nepal, marking a significant reform in the country’s public financial management system. Under this new arrangement, government employees will receive their salaries and allowances twice a month instead of once.
To operationalize the decision, the ministry has formally directed the Office of the Financial Comptroller General Nepal to make necessary arrangements for timely fund release and payment processing. Authorities have indicated that the system will be gradually extended to include government-affiliated bodies such as committees, commissions, and public enterprises.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the primary objective behind this reform is to enhance cash flow within the economy while also improving financial convenience for employees. By increasing the frequency of salary payments, the government expects to stimulate market activity and provide better liquidity support at the household level.
The move aligns Nepal with practices observed in many developed countries, where weekly or biweekly salary payment systems are commonly adopted to ensure steady income flow and economic circulation.
While the implementation phase will require adjustments in administrative and financial systems, officials believe the long-term benefits-both for employees and the broader economy-could be substantial.
