WWF Nepal Signs Five-Year Agreement to Advance Biodiversity Conservation Initiative

Kathmandu, Nepal - WWF Nepal has officially signed a five-year project agreement with the Social Welfare Council to implement its flagship Biodiversity Conservation in Nepal (BCiN) initiative, marking a significant step toward strengthening long-term conservation efforts across the country.
The BCiN initiative is designed around three core pillars-species, space, and people-reflecting an integrated approach to biodiversity conservation. The project will operate across Nepal’s key conservation landscapes and nationally identified priority areas, aiming to protect endangered species, conserve critical habitats, and promote sustainable coexistence between communities and nature.
According to WWF Nepal, the initiative emphasizes collaboration with local communities, recognizing their central role in conservation success. By aligning ecological priorities with community livelihoods, the project seeks to ensure that conservation efforts are both inclusive and sustainable.
The agreement has been made possible with the support and guidance of the Ministry of Forests and Environment and the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, highlighting a coordinated government and institutional commitment to biodiversity protection and social inclusion.
Experts view this partnership as a timely intervention, especially as Nepal continues to face growing environmental pressures, including habitat degradation, climate change, and human-wildlife conflict. The BCiN initiative is expected to contribute to national and global biodiversity targets while reinforcing Nepal’s reputation as a leader in community-based conservation.
The collaboration underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in addressing complex environmental challenges and advancing sustainable development goals.
