Myagdi Records Over Rs 316 Million in Orange Production This Year

Myagdi, Nepal - The hilly district of Myagdi has recorded significant economic gains from orange farming in the current agricultural year, with production valued at approximately Rs 316 million, according to the Agricultural Development Office, Myagdi.
Oranges continue to be the principal cash crop of the region, contributing substantially to the local economy and supporting farmers’ livelihoods.
Production Highlights
Total area under cultivation: 430 hectares
Average yield: 10.5 metric tons per hectare
Total production: 4,515 metric tons of oranges
The figures reported by the Agricultural Development Office indicate not only robust productivity but also the growing importance of citrus farming in Myagdi’s agrarian landscape.
Economic and Agricultural Impact
Orange cultivation has long been a vital source of income for rural households in Myagdi, linking agricultural output with local markets and trade networks. The valuation of this year’s production at over Rs 316 million reflects both favorable growing conditions and sustained efforts by farmers to improve yield and quality.
Agricultural experts say that continued support in areas such as improved seed varieties, plant protection, irrigation infrastructure, and post-harvest management could further enhance orange production and profitability for farmers.
Looking Ahead
As stakeholders aim to build on this year’s achievements, strengthening value chains, ensuring fair market access, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices remain key priorities. Local authorities and agricultural agencies are expected to engage more closely with farming communities to harness the full potential of citrus cultivation in the district.
