New Delhi, India - Ahead of the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) India is convening a high-level pre-summit dialogue focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in strengthening environmental resilience across India and the region.
Scheduled for 10 February 2026 at South Asian University, New Delhi, the dialogue is titled “AI for Environmental Resilience: From Prediction to Protection.” The session aims to move discussions beyond data and forecasts, focusing instead on how AI-driven environmental intelligence can be translated into real-world protection of ecosystems, communities, and natural resources.
According to UNEP, the dialogue will bring together policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and ecosystem partners working at the intersection of AI, climate action, and sustainability. Key discussions will revolve around identifying system-level bottlenecks and priority AI use-cases that can support better environmental governance, disaster preparedness, and community resilience in India.
A major highlight of the session will be the introduction and connection of participants to UNEP’s flagship AI initiatives, including EnvironmentGPT, World Environment Situation Room (WESR), International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), and the Sustainable AI Coalition. These initiatives are designed to support evidence-based decision-making by making complex environmental data more accessible and actionable.
The dialogue is being convened with the involvement of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, reflecting growing national interest in responsible and ethical AI applications for environmental and climate challenges.
UNEP has stated that there is no registration requirement for the event, encouraging open engagement among stakeholders committed to responsible AI, climate action, and people- and planet-centered technological progress.
As climate risks intensify and environmental pressures grow, the pre-summit dialogue is expected to contribute meaningfully to shaping how AI can support on-the-ground environmental protection, not only in India but across the Global South.
