Kavre, Nepal - Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, conducted a field inspection of the BP Highway recently damaged by severe flooding and landslides. The highway, a key transport link connecting the eastern and central regions of the country, has been severely affected by recent monsoon-related disasters, disrupting travel and commerce.
During the on-site visit, Minister Chaulagain assessed the extent of the damage and consulted with engineers and officials from the construction firm responsible for the restoration work. He emphasized the urgency of restoring the highway to full serviceability as quickly as possible.
“We understand how critical the BP Highway is for the movement of goods and people. I urge the construction company to complete the repair work within the allotted timeframe and with high standards of quality,” Minister Chaulagain said. He also called for close coordination between government agencies, contractors, and local communities to ensure uninterrupted progress on the project.
Transportation experts believe that timely reconstruction of the damaged sections will help minimize economic losses in the affected regions and improve safety for commuters. Local residents expressed support for the government’s steps, saying that road connectivity is vital for access to markets, health services, and education.
The Ministry has pledged to monitor the restoration progress closely and is coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that emergency response and preventive measures are strengthened in flood-prone areas.
As the monsoon season continues to pose challenges across the country, authorities are under increasing pressure to improve infrastructure resilience and emergency preparedness.
