Himalayan Futures Forum 2026 Begins Today in Lalitpur

Lalitpur - The Himalayan Futures Forum (HFF) 2026 officially begins today in Lalitpur, bringing together regional and international voices to explore the intersections of climate, community, and connectivity in the Himalayan region.
Often described as the “Third Pole”, the Himalaya holds the world’s largest reserve of ice and freshwater outside the polar regions, yet remains highly vulnerable to climate change, geopolitical pressures, and unplanned development. HFF aims to address these challenges by creating a people-centred platform for open, future-oriented dialogue beyond traditional inter-governmental mechanisms.
Incubated in 2023 and building on the legacy of the Himalayan Consensus Summit (2014-2020) hosted by the Nepal Economic Forum, the forum highlights both progress-such as Nepal’s expanding forest cover and Bhutan’s sustainable tourism initiatives-and ongoing environmental and social concerns across the region.
The 2026 edition, hosted in Nepal, features a full day of thematic sessions today with 34 speakers, including ten international panellists, covering issues such as climate action, geopolitics, migration, and disaster resilience. The forum will also host the Himalayan Haat, showcasing local, indigenous, and sustainable products.
With strong youth representation through the HFF Youth Fellowship and Nepal’s open connectivity and cultural richness, HFF 2026 seeks to foster collaboration, partnerships, and shared solutions for a more resilient Himalayan future.
