COLOCAL Project Reviews Progress, Sets Annual Climate Adaptation Priorities at SchEMS

Pokhara - The COLOCAL project, an international research initiative focused on strengthening local climate change adaptation in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), held its Progress Report and Annual Plan meeting at the School of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development (SchEMS), Pokhara University.
The meeting brought together researchers and project partners to assess the project’s journey so far, reviewing key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned since its inception. Central to the discussion was the project’s commitment to co-creating climate knowledge with local communities, ensuring that adaptation strategies are grounded in local realities rather than externally imposed models.
Participants reflected on how research outputs to date have contributed to improving understanding of climate risks at the community level, particularly in vulnerable regions where climate impacts are already affecting livelihoods, food security, and ecosystems. The session also emphasized the importance of translating research into practical, locally applicable solutions.
Looking ahead, the team refined its strategies and work plan for the coming year, with a strong focus on collaboration among academic institutions, local stakeholders, and policymakers. Strengthening partnerships and improving knowledge exchange were identified as critical steps to enhance climate resilience and support evidence-based decision-making.
SchEMS highlighted its role as a platform for interdisciplinary research and dialogue, reinforcing Pokhara University’s growing contribution to climate adaptation research in Nepal and other LDCs. The COLOCAL project continues to position local knowledge at the center of climate action, aligning research with the urgent needs of communities facing accelerating climate risks.
