Kathmandu, August 29 – Nepal’s journey towards building an inclusive digital future took a significant step forward today, as the United Nations in Nepal, led by the International Labour Organization (ILO Nepal) and UNESCO Office in Kathmandu, partnered with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and development partners to align efforts under the Digital Nepal Framework.
The initiative comes as part of implementing the Pact for the Future, with digital transformation recognized as a cornerstone for Nepal’s sustainable development and upcoming graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
According to the UN system in Nepal, nine UN agencies are currently implementing 98 digital initiatives across various sectors. These efforts aim to strengthen digital access, promote innovation, and ensure inclusive participation in Nepal’s digital economy.
Officials emphasized that digitalization is not only about advancing technology but also about driving equity, resilience, and empowerment. By strengthening coordination with the International Development Partners Group (IDPG) and supporting the Government of Nepal’s leadership, stakeholders aim to ensure that Nepal’s digital transition benefits all citizens, leaving no one behind.
Speaking at the event, representatives highlighted the importance of digital transformation in bridging gaps in education, employment, and public services, while also preparing Nepal for global competitiveness in the post-LDC era.
The joint commitment marks a major step toward harnessing technology as a driver of social and economic progress, setting a foundation for Nepal’s inclusive and sustainable digital future.
