Panauti, Kavrepalanchok - In a bold move toward grassroots-driven development, the Sustainability & Environmental Studies Endeavour (SENSE) successfully organized a dynamic Appreciative Participatory Planning and Action (APPA) workshop in the historic town of Panauti. The event marked the launch of the student-led initiative titled "Voices and Visions for Panauti: Community Solutions for a Sustainable Future" under the #NagrajTrailblazer campaign.
The workshop convened 28 diverse community members, including women, youth, and tourism entrepreneurs, in a shared space of dialogue and creativity. Participants engaged deeply with the Discovery and Dream phases of the 5-D APPA cycle, employing tools such as resource mapping and future visioning to unearth local knowledge and articulate collective aspirations for a sustainable future.
Facilitated by SENSE, this initiative emphasized community empowerment, inclusion, and intergenerational collaboration. Participants highlighted Panauti’s cultural richness, ecological assets, and the urgent need to balance preservation with innovation.
The APPA process revealed a strong local commitment to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, and community resilience—echoing the larger national advocacy for environmental protection seen in movements like "Wetlands for Nepal" and #AnyhowSimSarBachau.
The workshop not only fostered local ownership and vision-building but also illustrated how youth-led action can meaningfully contribute to inclusive and sustainable development models in Nepal. As environmental challenges mount globally and locally, initiatives like this underscore the power of participatory planning rooted in local context and values.
With its focus on sustainability, dialogue, and community solutions, the APPA workshop in Panauti stands as an inspiring example of what is possible when education, action, and local wisdom come together.
