Kathmandu, May 13, 2025 – FAO Nepal, under the Pandemic Fund’s “SPEED” project, has initiated the second cohort of the Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (FETPV). The program, aimed at bolstering Nepal’s veterinary field epidemiology capacity, officially began on May 4, 2025.
The three-month-long training is being conducted in collaboration with the Agriculture Information and Training Center (AITC) and the Department of Livestock Services. This cohort comprises 18 veterinarians from federal, provincial, and local levels, including a participant from the wildlife sector and a faculty member from the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Paklihawa.
The first module, focusing on theoretical learning, was successfully conducted over seven days (May 4–10) at AITC in Hariharbhawan. The module emphasized the development of critical epidemiological skills to enhance disease surveillance, outbreak response, and risk assessment in Nepal’s livestock and wildlife sectors.
The training aligns with FAO Nepal's broader goals of strengthening veterinary capacity and improving preparedness to mitigate potential zoonotic and livestock-related pandemics. By fostering technical expertise and collaboration among veterinarians, the initiative aims to contribute to sustainable agricultural development and public health protection in Nepal.
