Kathmandu, May 9, 2025 – In a bid to bolster trade and investment relations between Nepal and China, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) held high-level discussions with Chinese representatives in Kathmandu. The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for bilateral collaboration in tourism, clean energy, agriculture, hydropower, and electric vehicles.
Appeal for Investment
FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged Chinese investors to seize Nepal’s vast investment opportunities. Speaking at the event, President Dhakal emphasized, “China is Nepal’s second-largest trading partner. There is immense potential in sectors such as tourism, energy, agriculture, and IT. I encourage you to invest in these promising areas.” He further highlighted recent policy reforms in Nepal aimed at facilitating foreign investment and assured FNCCI’s readiness to support investors.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The discussions saw the participation of key figures, including Liu Dian, Director General of the China Trade Bureau under China’s Ministry of Commerce, and Li Chao, Second Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Section of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. Liu Dian reiterated China’s commitment to enhancing cross-border trade and supporting Nepal’s tourism sector. “Chinese investment in various sectors in Nepal is ongoing, and we are eager to explore new areas for collaboration,” Liu noted.
Li Chao echoed similar sentiments, stating that the Chinese Embassy is committed to fostering Nepal’s business environment and ensuring continued cooperation in economic ventures.
Policy Reforms and Opportunities
Senior FNCCI officials emphasized the transformative potential of Chinese technology, expertise, and capital in advancing Nepal’s industries. FNCCI Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha underscored the need for China’s assistance in expanding market access for Nepali products and addressing trade imbalances. “Nepal’s unique products need wider global reach, and China’s cooperation in this regard is crucial,” Shrestha stated.
Vice President Hemraj Sharma and Central Member Umesh Dalmia also emphasized the importance of strengthening joint ventures and enhancing Nepal’s participation in trade fairs in China. FNCCI Vice President Jyotsna Shrestha specifically highlighted the untapped potential of Nepal’s tourism sector, inviting collaboration in this area.
Nepal International Trade Fair 2025
The Nepal International Trade Fair 2025, which commenced on May 8, has attracted significant attention, with over 5,000 visitors attending on its second day. The fair serves as a platform not only for showcasing goods and services but also for fostering mutual cooperation and promoting trade. Chinese and Bangladeshi business delegations are among the notable participants, reflecting the event’s international significance.
