A two-day workshop aimed at enhancing the potential of homestay tourism in Sudurpaschim Province is set to take place on May 4-5, 2025 (Baisakh 21-22). The event will be hosted at Bhada Tharu Community Homestay in Tharu Village, Ward No. 16, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Kailali.
The workshop, organized by the Taragaun Development Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, will be inaugurated by the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey. It is expected to draw around 100 participants, including 70 representatives from community and private homestays operating across Sudurpaschim, along with tourism professionals, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders.
Key presentations will focus on critical aspects of sustainable tourism. Dr. Alkababu Prasai, a renowned tourism expert, will present on “Internal Governance in Tourism Promotion,” while Tilak Bahadur Dhakal, an advocate for indigenous agriculture and homestay tourism, will discuss “Sustainable Homestay Tourism Foundation.” These sessions aim to provide actionable insights for strengthening the governance and sustainability of homestay operations.
In line with the workshop’s goals, the program will also recognize exemplary homestays adhering to state tourism policies. Awards will be presented to the top three homestays, with cash prizes of NPR 100,000, NPR 75,000, and NPR 50,000 for the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
The event underscores the importance of homestays in promoting cultural preservation, community-based tourism, and sustainable development in Nepal. By bringing together key stakeholders, it aims to chart a collaborative path forward for the tourism sector in Sudurpaschim Province.
