Bhadrapur (Jhapa) – The Inland Revenue Office in Bhadrapur has reported a significant 8.26% increase in revenue collection during the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2081/82 compared to the same period last year. Despite this growth, the office has only achieved 81.45% of its revenue collection target for the period.
According to Doraraj Sunuwar, Information Officer and Tax Officer, the office collected NPR 2.35 billion during the nine months, exceeding last year's collection of NPR 2.17 billion for the same period. The target for the current fiscal year is set at NPR 4.61 billion, reflecting the government’s increased revenue expectations.
The revenue collection included NPR 1.07 billion from income tax, NPR 71.99 million from interest, NPR 767.09 million from value-added tax (VAT), and NPR 399.77 million from excise duty. Additionally, legal actions were taken against 11 firms and companies that failed to pay their taxes, recovering NPR 17.5 million through penalties.
“The office is making continuous efforts to meet its revenue collection goals through regular market inspections and monitoring,” Sunuwar stated. He also highlighted stricter measures such as freezing bank accounts and seizing properties of taxpayers with outstanding dues.
The increased revenue collection reflects improved compliance and enforcement mechanisms. However, falling short of the target indicates challenges in maximizing taxpayer compliance and broader economic factors affecting revenue generation.
This development emphasizes the importance of consistent tax monitoring and enforcement to bridge the gap between collection and targets, while also ensuring fairness and transparency in taxation practices.
