The Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has launched an awareness program focused on fire prevention and preparedness, aimed at reducing the rising cases of fire-related disasters in the municipality. The program, titled Fire Prevention Awareness and Disaster Preparedness, was inaugurated today at Yak Palace in Pulchowk, with the participation of several key stakeholders and community members.

Organized by the Disaster Management Division of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the event aims to equip the public with vital information on fire safety measures and preventive actions that can be taken to mitigate risks. The initiative comes in response to numerous fire incidents that have led to significant property damage and loss of lives in recent years, underscoring the need for proactive measures.

Chief guest Chiribabu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, emphasized the importance of community awareness and early fire prevention strategies to safeguard lives and infrastructure. He encouraged citizens to utilize available resources and technological tools such as the LMC Alert Mobile App, which provides timely updates on potential hazards and disaster preparedness.

The program also included a presentation of essential firefighting equipment and demonstrations by fire safety professionals to showcase how residents can protect their homes and workplaces in case of emergencies. Experts stressed the importance of having proper fire extinguishers and implementing fire drills as part of disaster risk reduction.

The event marks a crucial step in the city’s efforts to strengthen its disaster management capabilities and foster a culture of preparedness among the general public. The Lalitpur Metropolitan City plans to conduct more such programs across various wards to ensure wider community engagement in disaster preparedness activities.
