An inter-ministerial dialogue focusing on “Ensuring Children’s Civic Space” was held in Nepal today, bringing together government representatives, child rights organizations, and development partners to promote equal and inclusive participation of children in civic life.
The program, jointly supported by Save the Children, Consortium Nepal, and the Government of Sweden, emphasized the need for a child-inclusive civic environment where children’s voices are respected in decision-making processes that directly affect their lives.
During the dialogue, stakeholders discussed policy frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and collaborative actions required to safeguard children’s rights to association, expression, and participation. Participants highlighted that creating safe civic spaces for children is essential for building a democratic society that nurtures the next generation of active and responsible citizens.
The event underscored the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation to address barriers faced by children, including discrimination, lack of access, and inadequate legal protection. Representatives agreed that children must not only be protected but also empowered as key actors in shaping their communities and the nation’s future.
This dialogue marks an important step towards strengthening child participation in Nepal, aligning with global commitments such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Organizers expressed hope that the discussions will translate into concrete actions and policies ensuring that no child is left behind in civic engagement.
