Humla, August 29: In a significant boost to local connectivity, nine new suspension and truss bridges have been constructed in Humla district over the past year. The bridges, spanning rivers and streams across six rural municipalities, are now operational, easing travel and transport for local communities.
According to Sub-Engineer Jhullbahadur Shahi from the Infrastructure Development Office, all nine bridges were completed during the fiscal year 2081/82. Of these, four were built with the coordination of the Snowland Integrated Development Centre and Himalayan Conservation.
The newly completed structures include:
A 32-meter truss bridge at Chhosang, Namkha Rural Municipality-2
A 68-meter suspension bridge at Tallo Thadosanghu, Simkot Rural Municipality-1
A 32-meter Nalna Khola truss bridge at Kharpunath Rural Municipality-4
A 95-meter Lige suspension bridge linking wards 1 and 2 of Kharpunath
A 62-meter Jumli Gumba suspension bridge at Sarkegad Rural Municipality-2
A 32-meter Bhyuparn truss bridge at wards 5 and 7 of Sarkegad
A 32-meter Panighat truss bridge at Adanchuli Rural Municipality-3
A 102-meter Hungarkhola suspension bridge connecting wards 2 and 4 of Tanjakot
Construction costs ranged from NPR 4 million to nearly NPR 10 million per bridge.
Local officials and residents say the bridges are expected to greatly improve mobility, access to markets, education, and healthcare services, particularly in remote areas where river crossings were previously difficult and unsafe.
