Manang - Farmers in the lower region of Manang are currently busy with the apple harvest, marking one of the most active times of the year in the Himalayan district.
With the arrival of Bhadra (mid-August), households like that of Sol Bahadur Gurung from Tache, Ward 8 of Naso Rural Municipality, are fully occupied in their orchards from early morning, picking apples that have ripened across the region. Gurung’s farm is yielding Gala, Golden, Fuji, and Jonaprince varieties, reflecting the diversity of apples now produced in Manang.
Apple farming has expanded significantly in the lower parts of the district. Villages such as Tache (Ward 2), Odar (Ward 4), Tilche (Ward 7), and Dankyul (Ward 9) of Naso Rural Municipality have all entered the harvesting season. Farmers here have adopted high-density plantation technology with saplings imported from Italy, enabling better productivity and quality.
This shift in farming practice has allowed apple cultivation to flourish even in lower-altitude settlements of Manang, supporting both household income and the district’s reputation as a leading apple-producing region in Nepal.
