Pokhara Metropolitan City has initiated a large-scale tree plantation campaign aimed at enhancing greenery and promoting environmental sustainability under its "Green City, Clean City" initiative. The campaign envisions the plantation of 226,000 saplings of various species across the metropolis.
As part of the drive, 100 fruit saplings were planted on Monday within the premises of the Gandaki Province Police Training Center. The plantation event was attended by Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya, who highlighted the importance of collective efforts in creating a healthier and greener urban environment.
Key participants included SSP Janardan Jisi, Chief of the Police Training Center; Toran Baniya, Chairperson of Ward No. 15; Bimal Ranjan Karki, Chief of the Metropolitan Environment and Tourism Division; DSP Krishna Karki; and local representatives Ashish Bhandari and Balaram Poudel. City police officials and police personnel also actively took part in the plantation.
Mayor Acharya emphasized that the campaign is not just about planting trees but also about nurturing them to ensure long-term ecological balance and sustainable urban development.
With this campaign, Pokhara aims to set an example of how urban centers can integrate environmental conservation into city planning, while fostering community participation and responsibility.
