Rasuwa - The vital Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road has remained out of operation for more than three weeks after severe flooding on July 29 (14th Saun), forcing passengers to continue their journeys on foot.
The flood, which originated from Lende Khola on the Chinese side, caused extensive damage by washing away sections of the road. Although repairs have been completed at Timure, Tatopani Danda, Phyanglung, and Lingling, reconstruction at Medangpudung in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-3 has proven more challenging.
According to engineer Rupanarayan Paudel of the Galchi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road project, the reconstruction has been delayed because workers encountered hard rock at the site. “Since only one piece of equipment can be used in such conditions, the work has not progressed as quickly as expected. However, construction is ongoing,” he explained.
The project office estimates that it will take at least another week to bring the road back into operation.
This is the second major disruption in recent months. A flood on July 8 (24th Asar) had damaged about one kilometer of the road, which was reopened to one-way traffic after thirteen days of repair. However, the July 29 flood caused more extensive damage, affecting nearly two kilometers of the route.
The repeated disruptions highlight the growing vulnerability of key road infrastructure in Rasuwa to monsoon-related disasters, raising concerns for local communities, cross-border trade, and tourism in the region.
