Kathmandu, Nepal—A two-day workshop titled “Sustaining Collaboration and Defining Localization Model: Nepal Experience” commenced on May 7, 2025, in Kathmandu. Organized under the framework of the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP), the event aims to foster sustainable collaboration and develop a comprehensive localization model to strengthen disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) efforts in Nepal.
The workshop brings together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), National Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (NDRC), and other prominent organizations like the Gates Foundation, ADRF, and ADPC. Participants are engaging in discussions and sharing experiences to formulate strategies for enhancing local-level disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
This initiative underscores Nepal's commitment to localizing disaster management processes in alignment with global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The focus is on empowering local communities to take ownership of disaster preparedness and response, ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability.
Through collaborative sessions and interactive presentations, the workshop highlights the importance of public-private partnerships and community involvement in DRRM. Experts and policymakers are addressing key challenges, identifying best practices, and exploring innovative approaches to sustain collaboration across all levels of governance.
The event is a significant step toward strengthening Nepal’s disaster resilience, especially in light of increasing vulnerabilities to natural hazards in the region. Insights and outcomes from the workshop are expected to inform future policies and programs, setting a precedent for localization models in disaster-prone regions worldwide.
The workshop concludes on May 8, 2025, with a summary of findings and actionable recommendations to support localized disaster management efforts.
