QUÉBEC CITY, Canada - The 16th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC 2026) is set to bring together urban forestry professionals, researchers, practitioners, students, municipalities and community groups in Québec City from October 13 to 16, 2026, for four days of learning, knowledge exchange, field experience and networking.
Organized around the theme “Growing Cities While Growing Urban Forests,” the conference will examine how expanding and increasingly dense cities can protect, expand and integrate urban forests while responding to climate change, ecological pressures, equity and community well-being. Tree Canada says the conference will provide a platform to discuss strategies, policies, technologies, research and practical approaches shaping the future of urban forestry.
The programme includes keynote sessions, technical presentations, poster sessions, workshops, exhibitions, networking opportunities and field tours across Québec City. The field tours will showcase practical examples ranging from the preservation of remarkable trees and complete-street redevelopment to urban housing projects, municipal tree maintenance, collaboration between the city and Université Laval, and greening in an industrial setting.
The conference will also address issues increasingly important to cities worldwide, including urban canopy expansion, climate resilience, biodiversity, nature-based solutions, equitable access to urban forests and the challenges of balancing development with tree protection. The programme features contributions from researchers, municipalities and urban forestry practitioners from Canada and beyond.
Registration for CUFC 2026 closes on October 2, 2026. The conference is an in-person event, with registration options available for regular participants, students, NGOs and exhibition-hall visitors.
