Drammen, Norway | July 18, 2026 - A fast-moving wildfire has destroyed more than 100 homes in the town of Krokstadelva, part of Drammen Municipality in southern Norway, after erupting on Friday and spreading rapidly through residential neighborhoods under strong wind conditions.
The blaze tore through rows of wooden terraced houses before advancing into nearby forested areas, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Residents described sections of the affected community as resembling a "ghost town" after the fire reduced entire blocks of homes to ashes. Thick black smoke blanketed the surrounding region as emergency responders battled the flames.
Despite the extensive property damage, authorities confirmed that no fatalities or missing persons have been reported. Hundreds of residents were safely evacuated from the danger zone. More than 60 firefighters from Drammen and neighboring municipalities have been deployed to contain the wildfire.
