Lalitpur, Nepal - July 6, 2025
A significant national dialogue focusing on climate justice, the rights of marginalised communities, and the critical role of civil society took place today in Lalitpur, Nepal. The event, titled “National Dialogue on Climate Justice, Marginalised Community and the Role of Civil Society”, brought together diverse stakeholders to discuss inclusive approaches to tackling climate change.
Organised by NEPAN (Nepal Participatory Action Network), the dialogue aimed to amplify the voices of historically underrepresented and climate-vulnerable communities, while strengthening collaboration between civil society actors, development agencies, and policymakers.
The program emphasized the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalised groups including indigenous peoples, women, Dalits, and the poor-communities that contribute the least to global emissions but face the most severe consequences.
In coordination with the NGO Federation of Nepal, the Association of International NGOs in Nepal (AIN), and Save the Children, the event featured panel discussions, case presentations, and calls for stronger grassroots engagement in climate policy processes.
Experts and community representatives advocated for climate action rooted in justice, equity, and participation. Speakers highlighted how civil society plays a pivotal role in bridging gaps between policy frameworks and ground realities, particularly in disaster response, climate adaptation, and community empowerment.
The dialogue concluded with a unified call to recognize climate change as not only an environmental issue but also a matter of human rights and social justice. Participants urged the government and international donors to prioritize inclusive climate resilience and ensure that no community is left behind in the transition to a greener and fairer future.
