In a significant step toward bolstering Nepal’s institutional preparedness for climate-resilient development, the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) successfully conducted two intensive three-day training programs this week under the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Support Project in Kathmandu.
The first training, titled “Embedding Results-Based Approaches in Climate Finance,” focused on the Green Climate Fund’s Integrated Results Management Framework (IRMF) and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems. It aimed to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to design, implement, and track climate finance initiatives more effectively and strategically.
The second event, “Capacity-Building on Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) and Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM),” emphasized the importance of integrating socio-environmental responsibility into climate finance projects. The training enhanced participants’ understanding of the GCF’s ESS policies and mechanisms for grievance redress, aligning national practices with global standards of transparency, accountability, and inclusion.
A total of 49 participants representing key government ministries, the Climate Finance Technical Committee, GCF Direct Access Accredited Entities, and potential Accredited Entities engaged in these programs. Their active participation underscored Nepal’s growing commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in climate finance governance.
These efforts, supported under the GCF Readiness Program, are laying the groundwork for effective, inclusive, and sustainable climate action in Nepal. As climate finance becomes an increasingly crucial component of national development planning, such training initiatives are expected to play a central role in aligning Nepal’s systems with international frameworks under the UNFCCC.
