Kathmandu, May 17, 2025 – On the occasion of Norway's National Day, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal has recognized Norway’s enduring partnership and commitment to Nepal’s developmental progress and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A cornerstone of this collaboration is the Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (RERAS) project, a joint initiative that reflects Norway’s priorities in Nepal. This transformative project focuses on expanding access to clean and reliable energy in Nepal’s off-grid areas by rehabilitating and constructing micro-hydro power plants. The initiative not only enhances energy accessibility but also integrates renewable energy into agriculture to bolster food and nutrition security.
Through RERAS, UNDP and Norway are working together to institutionalize resilient agri-food systems and strengthen local environmental governance. The project’s holistic approach aims to empower women and youth, create economic opportunities, improve livelihoods, and contribute to building a climate-resilient and food-secure Nepal.
"Norway’s partnership has been instrumental in fostering sustainable development in Nepal," said a UNDP representative. "Through initiatives like RERAS, we are paving the way for a greener, more resilient future, ensuring that no one is left behind."
As Norway celebrates its national pride, the day also marks a reaffirmation of its shared vision with Nepal—a future rooted in sustainability, resilience, and equitable growth.
