Kathmandu, May 14, 2025 – Today, Nepal took center stage in its journey toward a climate-resilient future as the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) hosted a National Workshop at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel. The event brought together key stakeholders to reflect on the progress and achievements of the five-year “Climate Adaptation and Resilience for South Asia (CARE)” project, implemented in partnership with the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) and funded by the World Bank.
The CARE project (2020–2025) has been pivotal in building resilience to climate change across South Asia, with a focus on enhancing policies, data availability, and innovations in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. In Nepal, the initiative emphasized enhancing the availability of national data, developing tools and guidelines, and fostering climate-resilient policies and investments in key sectors like agriculture, transport, water, and finance.
Workshop Highlights
The workshop celebrated Nepal’s achievements under the CARE project and provided a platform for discussions on scaling up successful innovations and ensuring their long-term sustainability. Chairperson Er. Dinesh Prasad Bhatt, Chief Executive of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), highlighted the significance of collaboration:
“Our progress would not be possible without the support of our development partners. Among them, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) has been one of Nepal’s most consistent and trusted partners in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience. In recent years, the CARE for South Asia project was one of our most impactful collaborations.”
The workshop covered four key objectives:
1. Reflecting on the CARE project’s contribution to disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
2. Showcasing the project’s achievements and innovations.
3. Discussing the sustainability of interventions and innovations.
4. Exploring practical strategies for scaling up successful initiatives.
Achieving Results
The event underscored several outcomes:
Launching a comprehensive report on the project’s results, challenges, and lessons learned.
Strengthening collaboration among government agencies, innovators, and development partners.
Discussing future strategies to sustain and expand climate-resilient interventions across Nepal.
The workshop emphasized scaling up proven solutions and deepening collaboration to secure a future where climate action is smarter, stronger, and more sustainable. As the CARE project draws to a close, this event marked a significant milestone in Nepal’s ongoing efforts to enhance disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.
