In a significant step to promote cultural diplomacy and shared heritage, the Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal organized the official launch of a Nepali-language book titled "पाकिस्तानका बौद्ध सम्पदाहरु (Pakistanka Boudha Sampadaharu)" on Pakistan’s Buddhist heritage. Authored by eminent Nepali scholar Mr. Om Charan Amatya, the book sheds light on the ancient Buddhist sites in Pakistan and their deep historical and spiritual connections with Nepal.
The event was graced by Honourable Mr. Bhim Prasad Acharya, Member of Parliament (CPN-UML), who served as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, Mr. Acharya underscored the importance of people-to-people (P2P) contact through shared cultural legacies, and called for enhanced connectivity between Nepal and Pakistan to further promote Buddhist heritage.
Diplomats including H.E. U Myo Myint Maung, Ambassador of Myanmar, and Ms. Chameera Munasinghe, Chargé d’Affaires of Sri Lanka, were among the special guests present. The event saw participation from political leaders, Buddhist monks, scholars, journalists, and civil society members, along with representatives from universities and think tanks in both countries. Notably, Mr. A. Imran Shaukat, Ambassador for Buddhist Heritage Promotion for Pakistan, virtually addressed the gathering and elaborated on Pakistan’s ongoing efforts through its “Buddhist Heritage Promotion Initiative.”
Highlighting the cultural significance of the book, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, H.E. Mr. Abrar H Hashmi, stated that Pakistan takes immense pride in its rich Buddhist heritage and is committed to sharing this cultural treasure with the world. He praised author Mr. Om Charan Amatya for his thorough research and dedication in showcasing the sacred Buddhist landmarks of Pakistan to Nepali readers.
According to Mr. Amatya, many revered Buddhist sites in Pakistan, including Takht-i-Bahi and Taxila, hold historical relevance for Nepali and global Buddhist communities. He emphasized their potential to attract spiritual tourism, encourage academic research, and strengthen Nepal-Pakistan cultural ties.
The launch of Pakistanka Boudha Sampadaharu marks a meaningful chapter in bilateral relations, with both countries recognizing their intertwined spiritual histories and the potential for cultural cooperation through shared Buddhist legacies.
