Chitwan, Nepal - July 5, 2025
In a meaningful step towards environmental conservation and sustainable community development, Sapana Village, a Chitwan-based organization dedicated to social welfare and environmental protection, has successfully distributed improved Porte Bal stoves to 200 households in Kalika Municipality.
The distribution took place across Wards 1, 3, and 5, with active participation from local government representatives. The initiative aims to tackle household air pollution, reduce firewood consumption, and improve public health in rural communities.
Speaking at the event, Dhruva Giri, Chairperson of Sapana Village, emphasized the multiple benefits of adopting improved cooking technologies. “These stoves not only enhance indoor air quality and reduce health risks, but also play a crucial role in conserving forests, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting energy efficiency,” he noted.
The project was funded through a collaborative model—80% of the investment was made by Sapana Village itself, while the remaining 20% came jointly from Kalika Municipality and the beneficiary households.
Environmental experts have welcomed the initiative as a practical example of grassroots-level climate action. By integrating cleaner technologies into everyday life, the program aligns with Nepal’s national commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience.
Sapana Village’s effort is being recognized as a model intervention that bridges local needs with global climate goals—showing how community-led action can drive long-term environmental and social impact.
